Salvina Muscat

Salvina Muscat was born and raised on the island of Gozo before moving to the US in the 1980’s. She began to draw, paint, and sculpt at a very young age and taught herself how to practise as an artist. Her work developed into an expression of the pursuit of beautiful things within a context that was not giving her the inspiration she sought. Muscat loves beautiful things and strives for perfection in her work, often keeping it to herself and hidden. Muscat recently moved back to Gozo and has rarely shown her work in public.
Salvina Muscat uses realistic clay sculptures of toast, bananas, eggs, and avocados to highlight the stark contrast between abundance and scarcity in our world. These lifelike representations of common breakfast items serve as a powerful reminder of the 700 million who face food insecurity every day. The choice of breakfast items symbolises the start of a new day, a time of nourishment and energy that many people cannot take for granted.
Through art that looks real but is fundamentally inedible, she challenges viewers to confront the uncomfortable reality that while some enjoy abundance, others struggle to access even basic nutrition. https://samulifetracks.com
