Eleanor Meredith
Eleanor Meredith’s work crosses the disciplines of painting, animation and ceramics. She has exhibited her work at National Media Museum, Rochelle School, Dundee Contemporary Arts, Tramway Glasgow, Oval Space and the Royal Scottish Academy. Meredith has created work for clients as diverse as Southbank Centre, BBC, Thames and Hudson, Hotel Bloom, and the Scottish Government. She teaches part time and delivers workshops for adults and children, selling work in selected galleries including Momosan, Plumbline Gallery and Unpolished. Her work is playful, preoccupied with depicting form with minimal gesture and a lightness with colour. Surprise is integral to the way that she works, responding in real time to forms and shapes and trying to solve material problems.
Eleanor Meredith created "Slugs," a porcelain piece featuring stained porcelain and pearlescent lustre, to reflect her feelings of being overwhelmed by decisions and responsibilities. The forms in this work are designed to visually represent the sense of being utterly swamped. "The Big Fly," also in porcelain with underglaze pencil decoration, features a large, flightless fly that explores concepts of scale and insect perception. Finally, "Camel" is a proud and content porcelain sculpture, glazed with underglaze pencil decoration, and captures the essence of a camel happy in its form.
