Rosa Madonna
Rosa Madonna graduated in sculpture in 1982 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, where she studied with Emilio Greco. Since then, she has dedicated herself to her artistic practice, which spans painting, sculpture, and ceramics. She periodically exhibits different works in her studios and sometimes works on commissions, including sculptural portraits and set designs for local theatre performances. In the 1990s, alongside her research and creation activities, she opened Archè, an art school aimed at training young artists and providing art enthusiasts of all ages with access to the world of art.
The sculptures in CLAY / CRAFT / CONCEPT are called the Janas, inspired by the archaic myths of Sardinia. According to the story, one day a bored god descends to an island to learn how to dream. In his sleep, while inadvertently chasing away a bee, a spark of divine power escapes from his fingers, transforming the entire swarm into a tribe of small feminine deities. Thus, the Janas are born—fairies who teach women to spin, rediscover craft, and cultivate patience, which is considered the ideal condition for the birth of creativity. In the 21st Century the Janas have also become warriors, wounded in their attempts to block the proliferation of wind turbines that are ruining the beauty of Sardinia.
