Rebecca Bonaci
THISS - Rebecca Bonaci graduated with a BA in Fine Arts in 2014, after which she pursued a career in tattooing and visual art. Bonaci’s paintings, primarily inspired by the Maltese landscape and mythological female figures, reflect her deep connection to nature, aiming to capture the essence of the land in both ancient and timeless ways. She strives to create art that bridges the past and present, shaping a stillness in time. For her recent solo show, Ġuf, Bonaci focused on a body of work celebrating contemporary motherhood from her personal perspective as a mother and an artist.
“Agave Jug” is part of a limited-edition collection developed by THISS in collaboration with Rebecca Bonaci. It emphasises straightforward silhouettes and simple finishes, allowing the elegant illustrations of Mediterranean flora to shine through. The process behind these pieces draws on elements from Bonaci’s tattooing practice. The subject matter, scale, and positioning of each object’s decorative elements were determined only after the piece was bisque-fired. The illustrations were placed to complement and accentuate the pre-made forms, much like tattoos do for the body. This particular piece features an agave in bloom, with its long stalk drawing the eye to the jug’s delicate neck.
